High Resolution Oesophageal and Pharyngeal Manometry has landed at MSAC! This new swallowing diagnostic tool represents state-of-the art practice in the complete dysphagia management. Not only does it provide established oesophageal functional analysis, which is more widely available, it brings with it exciting opportunities for pharyngeal analysis, the first of it’s kind in Victoria. Manometry is used to measure the pressure events during swallowing of the nasal cavity, tongue, pharynx (throat), opening to your oesophagus, all the way to the stomach, not just your oesophagus. This important functional evaluation assists with breaking down swallowing problems, tailoring swallowing exercises, and is useful for biofeedback to improve muscle training. It is complimentary to other swallowing assessments such as FEES, Videofluoroscopic swallowing studies, pH-impedance monitoring and Upper endoscopy.
All evaluations are performed in our rooms under the careful expertise of our Speech Pathologist and ENT surgeon. Assessments will come with a detailed report, that can be either used to provide swallowing therapy at our practice, or taken back to your own speech pathologist and clinician for further management
