The Melbourne Swallow Analysis Centre is very excited to welcome Dr Anthony Rotman to the team.
Anthony is a Melbourne-trained ENT Surgeon with a special interest in voice, swallow and airway disorders. He joins MVAC after returning from the United Kingdom where he undertook not one, but two Laryngology Fellowships.
After completing his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2009, he spent much of his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. He obtained a post-graduate diploma of surgical anatomy in 2011 in ENT. He then entered subspecialty training in Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery which he completed in 2019 after training at various hospitals including the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Monash Health, the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Alfred. In doing so he gained experience in managing both paediatric and adult ENT conditions.
After receiving his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Anthony completed further training in the United Kingdom. This began in London where he worked for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the National Centre for Airway Reconstruction. This is one of only a few Fellowships approved by the Royal College of Surgeons England and ENT UK, focusing on endoscopic and open approaches to disorders of the voice box and trachea. As part of this he also spent time at the Royal Brompton Hospital’s upper airway clinic, training in vocal cord dysfunction and chronic cough. Following London, Anthony did a second Laryngology Fellowship at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with an emphasis on local anaesthetic procedures for voice and swallowing disorders, whilst also gaining exposure to laryngeal reinnervation techniques.
Throughout this time, he maintained his skills in other areas of ENT including nasal surgery, sinus surgery and sleep apnoea surgery, also managing problems related to the ears, salivary glands, thyroid and throat/neck.
With a number of publications and presentations as well as regular attendance at national and international training courses, Anthony enjoys using current evidence and techniques to benefit his patients. He delivers a comprehensive consultation and understands the significance of a thorough patient explanation in diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions.
Anthony also takes an active role in teaching ENT trainees at Monash Health, where he holds a Consultant appointment and performs a range of ENT procedures on children and adults. Aside from participating in the Laryngology service at Monash Health, Anthony has surgical accreditation at multiple private hospitals including Holmesglen, Linacre, Epworth Richmond and Cabrini.
In his spare time, Anthony enjoys cooking, playing soccer and spending time with his family.
